Is Lil Kesh Leaving YBNL? All The Facts

Is Lil Kesh Leaving YBNL? – Rumors have begun to circulate that star rapper Lil Kesh is looking to quit current label YBNL.

Is Lil Kesh Leaving YBNL?
Is Lil Kesh Leaving YBNL?

King Kesh’s contract with the record label has reportedly expired two weeks ago, and has reportedly refused to resign with the label.

According to the numerous reports, Lil Kesh is also keen to float his own label, which will reportedly be named Y.A.G.I, after his debut album.

So, will Lil Kesh actually be leaving YBNL? Let’s look at some of the facts that we have.

1. No video has been released from Y.A.G.I: The rumors claim that Olamide has refused to shoot any video from Y.A.G.I, because of his refusal to sign a new contract. This might well be true, considering that YBNL are a video-happy label. It’s been over 5 weeks since Lil Kesh dropped Y.A.G.I, and this may well point to issues within the label, considering Olamide released the videos for Don’t Stop and Eyan Mayweather only 3 weeks after the album’s release.

2. Lil Kesh’s Twitter: Social media pages have become notorious for their use by celebrities in revealing major changes, but so far Lil Kesh’s Twitter still says that he’s a YBNL Soldier of the YBNL Nation.

3. In an exclusive chat with 360Nobs, Lil Kesh’s manager AB Fresh said that there was no truth to the rumors, and Kesh was still in YBNL records.

So there you have it. Is he leaving or not? Time will tell.

Album Review: Eyan Mayweather is Olamide’s Most Enjoyable Disc In a Long Time

Eyan Mayweather is Olamide’s most enjoyable disc in a long time

Olamide’s fifth studio album in as many years is a subtle ode to his second and perhaps first mainstream collective, the aptly named Yahoo Boy No Laptop that began his unprecedented dominance of an industry that once considered him an outsider.

It begins with the title track, a haunting but forceful expression that sounds like it was put together with the aid of celestial bodies. In many ways, it reflects Voice of the streets from YBNL and Olamide drags the levitating back to earth with his expressive freestyle-ish rhymes that boast of his achievements, not the least of which is shutting down Eko hotel for 2 years in a row.

When Eyan Mayweather’s album art and track listing hit the Internet prior to release late last year, , and with it, the announcement that his 5th solo studio record would be without any guest appearances, the palpable fear was the same from Bariga to Badagry. Olamide is an artiste not exactly revered for his discipline. Even with the help of other artistes, he tends to come across as unchecked and unwilling to be a team player. Would a full album consisting only of his huffing and puffing make for time well spent?

WATCH: VIDEO: Olamide – Eyan Mayweather

With Eyan Mayweather, Olamide has managed to alleviate all those fears. At an untidy 21 tracks, the record is still as superfluous as anything he has ever done, and left to his own devices, Olamide proves he is one of the most arresting and interesting artistes working today.

He shifts between shiny pop, traditional highlife and street anthems nimbly and does all three with aplomb. Olamide does not break new grounds in terms of the material that he chooses to tackle. It is still all about the hood, the hustle, the hoes and the hours put in but his charisma, tied to Pheelz’s back breaking work behind the scenes elevates everything to aspirational, pop culture phenomena.

The pop songs here are addictive and sure to shut down top 10 radio. Mega hits like Bobo, Lagos Boys and Don’t stop sit side by side with trado-highlife highlights like Say something, Arara and Toriomo. Add to this interesting mix, hip hop stompers like Boom Boom Boom, and Igara Chicken. Also included is the afrobeat styling of Inferiority complex where Olamide stretches his voice hoarse while attempting to sing.

Eyan Mayweather is really a movement and Olamide’s infectious energy is the force that propels the record forward, making it possible for you to look past flaws in the production process as well as the deficiencies of his song writing and rhyming. A local rapper to the core, Olamide is strongest and most confident when he raps in his dialect but he takes the occasional plunge into murky waters on songs like Where the man and wherever else it is that he decides to rap in English, or bite Phyno’s style as he does on the Connect wannabe, Sold out.

DOWNLOAD: Music: Olamide – Sold Out

Compared to his last solo effort, Street OT, Eyan Mayweather is definitely more accessible and aims for a commercial appeal that goes down easy. It is the most enjoyable piece of work Olamide has put out in a while, maybe even since his debut, Rhapsodi.

Olamide’s insistence on sticking with a then untested Pheelz following his cleavage from ID Cabasa has paid off handsomely and their partnership approaches iconic levels on this record.

Eyan Mayweather still cannot gloss over Olamide’s flaws and shortcoming. He is taking on more responsibilities as he grows career wise but it is nice to know that he has not lost his first calling, hit maker extraordinary. In spite of his excesses and a now going on chronic refusal to tighten his word play, it is still really Olamides’s world and we are all just living in it.

MUSIC PREMIERE: iJay – Mo Juwonlo Ft. M.I x Olamide (Prod. Don L37)

After almost two years of seemingly dropping off the radar, Akande Olashile Juwonlo better known as iJay drops his debut single, appropriately titled; Mo Juwonlo.
The song is sampled off his feature on MI’s 2014 Chairman Album song titled “The Middle” which also featured Olamide.
The in-studio bonding must have been mutually satisfying for all the artistes, as “Mo Juwonlo” reversibly features MI and Olamide.
In his early twenties, the Gbagada – Lagos based singer is not new to struggle and “Mo-Juwonlo” is a cathartic expression of the uprooting of deeply entrenched insecurities planted as poisonous verbal seeds over many years of uncertainty but culminating in triumph through faith and self-confidence as iJay sings about victory over his detractors.
The sound is hip-hop/pop, but the emotion is raw and unrehearsed. With a voice comparable to that of 9ice, iJay’s vocal delivery is quicker and more tenacious; slashing through the beat and reminiscent of once broken bones that have now fused to become thicker and even stronger.
i-Jay is signed to “Lamp House” and the mid to fast tempo hip-hop track was produced by hit maker – Don L37.

Adekunle Gold May Leave YBNL – Reports suggest than YBNL Records’ alternative singer, Adekunle Gold, may be quitting the label soon.

The Pick Up singer has risen meteorically after his debut single, Sade, and reports suggest that following his emergence as a star act in the industry, he’d be following in the footsteps of Lil Kesh to move on from the label and stand on his own.

Adekunle Gold reportedly signed a 2-year contract when he joined the label in 2014, and the contract is said to expire in June. The singer already has a good collection of singles already including Orente and the recently-released Ready, and will most likely be dropping his debut album before he leaves the label.

Adekunle Gold, whose real name is Adekunle Kosoko, had first gained popularity on the internet for his skills as a photo editor, photoshopping himself perfectly into pictures with Nicki Minaj, Kim Kardashian and many more. His talent has already been recognized in the music industry, winning the award for Best Alternative Song at the 2015 Hip Hop World Awards.

YBNL boss Olamide must feel bad letting go of his star acts, but he has already begun restocking his label, with new female singer Temmie Ovwasa already announced.

How Adekunle Gold Joined YBNL – Singer Adekunle Gold has revealed how he got himself signed to Olamide’s YBNL Records.

Adekunle Gold, who first rose to fame on the internet for his ability as a graphic designer, became acquainted with Olamide after he helped design the YBNL logo. He also designed artworks for the label’s acts, including Lil Kesh and Viktoh.

Adekunle Gold said in a recent interview: “I would never have thought that an Olamide would sign me, so there is no way I lobbied or pushed or sent my songs to him to listen to before signing me on the label. When I dropped Sade, apparently he liked it and everybody in the YBNL team loved it, so 2days to OLIC concert, the first one ever, he called me to come chill with him at the hotels for rehearsals and everything.”

He added: “So 2 days after the concert, he called me that he would love to work with me that he thinks my song is a future and he doesn’t want it to change. I quickly took the deal before my guy would change his mind.”

It’s certainly been a good deal for both, with Adekunle Gold’s debut album, Gold, to drop next month.

VIDEO: Falz ft. Olamide x Davido – Bahd Baddo Baddest

Folarin Falana aka Falz tha Bahd guy remains one of the hottest acts in Nigeria right now.

Since his debut album, ‘Stories That Touch’,  the MTN Pulse and Remy Martin ambassador has gone on to be one of the industry’s most original artists.  Bringing comedy to his style of music. Since there is no rest if you want to be at the top in the music industry and for continuity….

Officially, Falz drops the video to his smash tune, street anthem Bahd Baddo Baddest, which we are guessing is the first single from his upcoming album possibly – single was dropped in April 2016.  If you are in tune with nigerian music you’ll know there are only 3 self proclaimed ‘bad guys’ in the industry – Bahd Baddo Baddest refers to the monikers of Falz, Olamide and Davido respectively.

In true fashion Bahd Baddo Baddest shows off the lyrical skills of the ‘Aro Meta lori beating’. Each ‘bad  guy ‘taking his turn, waxing lyrical about achievements, those who stand in the way of their successes.

In the video directed by Unlimited LA for MSAYC productions, the three artists (Aro meta) open the the video with a large group of ‘friends’ in the background – a mix of dancers, hype men, supporters etc. Its the typical studio video for a tune such as Bahd Baddo Baddest – dance moves, fire, girls, street elements.

MUSIC PREMIERE: Olamide – Konkobility

YBNL honcho – Olamide is at it again with the release of a new Afro-Beat inspired Young Jonn produced single dubbed ‘Konkobility‘.

Olamide is the king of hits and safe to say the hardest working rapper in the studio – song after song, album after album, isn’t letting up. He is still serving up the slangs – ain’t no label sign out (talks of Lil Kesh and Adekunle Gold leaving YBNL and setting up elsewhere) ruining his flow.

Just about a week after releasing his video for his massive tune ‘Who You Epp’ with Wande Coal and Phyno, the shakti bobo king is back again with another possible hit.

Once again, he gives his ever growing fan base a reason not to doubt his capability of being ahead of the race of consistency. With this new track, we see the Who You Eppcrooner flexing on his versatility as he tries to persuade a lady into hearing him out. Olamide rap sings on what is influenced by the Afro-Beat king, Fela with a fuji tilt to it – his rasp voice skipping playfully over the beats.

Is Konkobility another hit for the king of the streets?.  Does this really prove Olamide, is indeed the baddest rapper that ever liveth?
